Conserve moisture
Improve soil structure
Enhance traction

OVS stocks six blends in our warehouses, and can order up special blends upon request.

DriveRow is a perennial grass cover crop; 20% Creeping Red Fescue and 80% Perennial Rye. It’s a good choice for a permanent cover mix for heavier soils. The tough turf will withstand equipment, even during the wet time of the year. Drought tolerant and low growing, it requires less mowing during the summer. Recommended rate, 50# per seeded acre, however, a higher seeding rate will offer better weed suppression and faster results.

Spreading Rye is a blend of low growing, self-repairing, fine bladed, attractive grass. This option as a permanent cover is a patented seed grown here in Oregon. Rate per seeded acre: 50#.

Oats are the best companion for legumes. Rapid germination can be an advantage when rain and cooler temperatures are forecasted. This seed can send fibrous roots to 1.5 meters. Most commonly planted in younger vineyards and orchards for plowdown the next Spring. Rate per seeded acre: 50 – 80#.

Crimson Clover produces lots of flower nectar, attracts pirate bugs (Orius tristicolor) that eats thrips and other pests, nitrogen fixer, good P & K accumulator, tolerates low pH soild and has a deep taproot.

OVS stocks two blends of biomass seed. All are nitrogen fixing, provide erosion control and are designed for spring plowdown. Rate per seeded acre: 50 – 80#.

Biomass Builder 2: 40% Austrian Winter Peas, 30% Oats, 10% Faba beans, 5% Crimson Clover, 5% Annual Rye, 10% Common Vetch
Economy Biomass Builder: 65% Oats, 15% Winter Peas,10% Oregon Vetch, 10% Crimson

Turf Seed

Natural Knit® Spreading Perennial Ryegrass is blend of perennial ryegrass selected for its highly-rated and patented, ‘spreading’ varieties. ProTurf Solutions, a division of OVS, is proud to be the exclusive national distributor of this exciting “NEW” development in high quality turf. The varieties contained in this blend were specifically selected for their ability to send out ‘pseudo-solons’. These tightly intertwined horizontal tillers form a dense root base system allowing for sod farm cultivation without netting. Anyone who has renovated an old lawn that was installed with sod grown with traditional netting, can attest to the difficulties that it creates when utilizing a roto-tiller or other implements.

The combination of an extremely high tiller count, and relatively small seed size (260,000 seeds/lb), allows for a greatly reduced application rate of 3-4lbs (2-3lbs for over-seeding) per 1,000 square feet. In addition, these characteristics allow for greater resistance to weed encroachment, by reducing open space within which these undesirables might establish. The built in recuperative ability allows for a denser, aesthetically pleasing lawn, which requires less active management. The lateral development of these turf grass varieties also means that it can be cut less frequently, and at much lower heights (1/2-3/4” March to May), for a dense, beautiful plush lawn requiring less management. Available now in 10, 25, and 50lb bags at authorized ProTurf Solution-OVS dealers. More...
